Local Solemn Observance
On Monday, January 24, 2011, as hundreds of thousands of people travel to our nation’s capital to protest the U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in 1973; the Archdiocese of Indianapolis will conduct a local solemn observance of Roe v. Wade in Indianapolis. The observance begins with noon Mass at SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral, with Msgr. Joseph F. Schaedel, V.G., as the main celebrant. If your pastor or associate pastor would like to concelebrate contact the Pro-Life Office ASAP.

Following Mass, participants of the local solemn observance will gather on the sidewalks on both sides of North Meridian Street in front of the cathedral. Special rally signs depicting newborn infants with positive messages will be distributed to marchers. The Pro-Life Office is focused on capturing the attention of the media, pedestrians and even pro-abortion opponents, with beautiful images of healthy babies and the following statements: "Loved by God", "Wanted? You bet!", "Made by God," and "Precious and Unique."

The prayerful procession with the rally signs will end at the Veterans Memorial Plaza, 431 N. Meridian Street. During the prayerful, peaceful procession, Harry Plummer, Executive Director of the Secretariat for Catholic Education and Faith Formation, will lead the group in the recitation of the joyful mysteries of the rosary.

Once we gather at the Veterans Memorial Plaza, Rebecca Kiessling, an attorney and international speaker, and a woman who was conceived during rape, will speak about the dignity and sanctity of all human life.

A Silent No More Rally will follow in which women and men will speak out against Roe v. Wade after sharing their own tragic abortion experiences.

To help us plan seating in the cathedral for the local solemn observance, please call 317-236-1569 or email the following information to parthur@archindy.org, no later January 13, 2011.

Your generous DONATIONS enable the Office for Pro-Life Ministry to respond to the systematic assaults against human life by the evil emerging from the culture of death; by promoting pro-life education, evangelization, pastoral outreach, and charity to impoverished women and babies in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. I thank you in advance for your generosity.

In the Lord of Life,

Sr. Diane Carollo, S.G.L.
